Because education shouldn't be deprived of money, let us learn in detail about what this scheme is all about and how you can apply for the Bihar Student Credit Card Scheme 2025.
Bihar Student Credit Card Scheme
Bihar Student Credit Card Scheme (BSCCS) was launched by the government of Bihar on 2nd October 2016 under the Mukhyamantri Nishchay Yojana. This scheme was proposed to make higher education accessible and affordable for all students of Bihar, especially for those who aren't able to continue their studies due to being financially underprivileged.
The scheme enables the student to avail an education loan of up to ₹4,00,000 to pursue higher education after completing their class 12. The student can choose any courses across any institute in India and pursue the learning.
Features of Bihar Student Credit Card Scheme (BSCCS)
- Government-Backed Guarantee: The Bihar government stands as the guarantor and allows you to take collateral-free loans.
- Subsidised interest rates: the interest rates are extremely low, such as 1% for girls, physically-challenged students and transgender students and 4% for male students.
- Focus on empowerment: the scheme is particularly designed to empower and promote higher education in rural and low-income families, especially for students who are aiming for degrees in fields like engineering, medicine, management, and many more.
- Extended repayment: Repayment amount of the loan begins one year after course completion, giving graduates enough time to find employment, settle and then pay the amount.
- Complete support - The entire process is easy and supportive, helping the student to easily pass out every stage and seek aid.
BSCCS Loan coverage
Bihar Student Credit Card Scheme provides you a loan up to 4 lakh, but it is not fixed. The amount of the loan varies depending on the expenses of your course. For example, if your total course fee plus your educational expenses are less than 4 lakh, then the sanction amount will be the lesser one or just the rupees lakhs.
Let's understand this via an example. If you're pursuing B.com and your educational expense of about 3.7 lakh (including tuition, hostel and other activities), then you will only get 3.5 lakh approved. Henceforth, you are eligible to get just the covered expenses related to your college charges, not more than that.
Hostel & Mess coverage through BSCCS
Hostel fees are included, but only under your condition, such as:
- The hostel must be provided by the college or institution.
- The hostel charges must be clearly mentioned in the official fee structure that is to be provided by the college during admission.
- The hostel charges + the tuition fees + any other educational-related expenses must be within the rupees 4,00,000 cap, then only hostel fees will be sanctioned; otherwise, if the amount exceeds, then just the tuition and other expenses to be included.
- If you are staying in a private PG or rented flat outside the college campus, those expenses won't be covered.
- Mess and food charges, if clearly mentioned and listed under the hostel facilities under the fee breakdown, and stay within the 4 lakh package, then it is to be considered under the scheme; otherwise, if paid separately, it won't be covered.
Note: No off campus or daily transportation are covered. The only amount to be sanctioned which is clearly mentioned by the college ends in the fee breakdown and that stays within the limit of ₹4,00,000.
Benefits of the Bihar Student Credit Card
- The scheme helps the student to enjoy financial freedom and pursue a worry-free education.
- A low interest rate helps the student avoid excessive amounts.
- A longer repayment window allows the student to get a job and then proceed with the repayment of the loan without burdening them.
- The loan does not require any collateral security, hence you don't need to mortgage any of your assets.
